Northern Power Women Awards celebrate great success for a fourth year!

Mar 19, 2019

An awards ceremony, recognising people working towards gender diversity in the North, celebrated the success of individuals and businesses last night at Manchester Central. The Northern Power Women awards are in their fourth year and were founded by Simone Roche MBE to help showcase role models and best practice from across the North of England. The event welcomed over 800 people who were there to applaud the fantastic work being delivered across our regions by some of North’s inspiring individuals.

With the theme of the event being #WeCan Simone Roche encouraged every person in the room to continue being role models and to keep pushing the boundaries: “The passion and enthusiasm I saw for the winners last night is exactly why these awards are so important. The atmosphere in the room was full of hope and aspiration and it just goes to show what can happen when people work together and say yes we can,” explained Simone.

“These awards have been the biggest yet and I’m in complete awe of the work these amazing individuals and businesses are doing – it just demonstrates the exceptional talent we have in the North and I am so proud of everyone, a huge congratulations to all!”

Construction Q was awarded the Small Organisation of the year award, sponsored by Santander. Construction Q promotes genuine flexible working practices and is a shining light of innovation and equality within a traditional sector. Their work with local schools and universities is paving the way for young women entering the construction sector.

Santander’s Jo Phipson, Regional Director said: “It’s wonderful to see the talent and passion of the businesses shortlisted for a Northern Power Award. I recognise that it takes resilience and passion to turn a dream into a business and to really make your business prosper. I’m proud of what you’ve all achieved!”

The evening also recognised the 100 women named on the Future and Power List, the full breakdown of winners can be found at www.northernpowerwomen.co.uk.

Quack quack - it’s back! That’s right, the annual Duck Race at Bramhall Park is back on the summer social calendar. Organised by the Bramhall & Woodford Rotary, this years event will be in aid of Motor Neurone Disease. They help provide local practical support for those living in Greater Manchester with Motor Neurone Disease, via a dedicated team of local volunteers, many of whom have had personal experience and feel driven to help others. As previous occupants of the winners enclosure, CedriQ will be hoping there will be no ‘fowl’ play and he can scare off his fellow Bramhall businesses to scoop 1st place! Starting at 11.00am, there will be a variety of duck races to watch and there will be speciality races with local celebrities and businesses getting involved by decorating giant plastic ducks who will go beak to beak in the river. Entry is still free but please enter a duck in a race for just a pound. You could be a winner of £100! Visit www.bwrotary.org or the Facebook page Bramhall and Woodford Rotary for information.

In a male dominated industry, Construction Q are proud to have a diverse workforce and this was celebrated on International Womens Day 2022. Part of the #breakthebias movement, CQ are proud to work alongside the Northern Power Women working towards a world that is diverse, equitable and inclusive. This was recognised in 2019 when we were awarded the Northern Power Women Awards Small Business of the Year in recognition of the work we do to celebrate Women in Construction. Today, and every day, we recognise the fantastic women in our business, the women we work with, and the women that we inspire through our work on careers in construction. We also celebrate the the men who help us on our journey to raise awareness against bias and support is in the work we do. As Michelle Obama said, ‘there is no limit to what we, as women, can achieve’.

Outstanding leaders and businesses based in the North of England were recognised in Manchester last night at the Northern Power Women Awards 2022, sponsored by EY. The Awards celebrate both individuals and businesses who are pushing boundaries and leading the way to accelerate gender equality and social mobility from the North of England. No stranger to The Northern Power Women Awards, we were delighted that our Founder, Fiona Hull, was amongst those shortlisted for the Entrepreneur of the Year. Alongside finalists from Dragons Den and Blue Chip companies, Fiona was delighted to be named alongside such an esteemed list. Alison Kay, Managing Partner for Client Service at headline sponsor, EY UK and Ireland, said her organisation was delighted to sponsor the event: “There was a lot of tough competition on the shortlist and the winners – both individuals and organisations – offer outstanding examples of how we can drive real change and use influence and power for the benefit of many. It was a pleasure to support these awards and to showcase these outstanding leaders.” Simone Roche MBE, Founder and CEO of Northern Power Women, commented: “This year’s Award winners once again represent the outstanding leaders and role models present in and from the North. They are creating change and using their power and influence to benefit a huge number of people and are embodying the Northern Power Women ethos of inspiring people to use their PoWEr for good and advancing gender equality.” While the Awards ceremony plays an important role in recognising role models, Northern Power Women delivers a range of reports, webinars, mentoring programmes, podcasts, and networking events throughout the year to continue the campaign towards gender equality.
